Our clients need Jesus. And so do we. Sami humbly and beautifully shares just one of the many examples of this from our work in her reflection below.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16.

This verse is so common, and many people learn it at a young age, but as I was reading it this morning it seemed beautiful in a new way. I know I often take for granted the hope and love I have through The Lord. I wake up each morning with the hope of eternal life but there are so many in this world who don’t. I am reminded of that through meeting many of the clients we serve, like the client I met with yesterday.

The young woman I met with was in clear distress and there seemed to be a lot going on that she didn’t want to talk about. I am someone who loves to listen, but I also know the value of just sitting in silence absorbing the grief and emotions in the room. Yesterday, I felt at a loss. I listened and asked questions, and there were many moments of sitting in silence, but I felt like more was needed.  I so wanted to help this client but was unsure of how to do so. The client didn’t have any specific faith beliefs; she told me she believed in a higher power. I was at a loss and in that moment, I knew that not only did she need Jesus but so did I, so I asked if we could pray. She agreed and we did. Through her tears she thanked me and mentioned how much that prayer helped. We went on with the appointment and later I mentioned counseling referrals and she asked if any of them were “religious” because the prayer I offered had helped her so much and made her want to go deeper spiritually. That then lead us talking about the Gospel and the Love God has for her. She seemed overwhelmed by a love so powerful. She ended with the statement “I have a lot to think about.”

I remember sitting in that room, thinking, I don’t know what else to do but I know how much Jesus can actually do. It was when I couldn’t do enough that I remembered Jesus can do it all. There are so many people like this client, lost in a dark world. I am humbled each time God is willing to use someone like me to bring His Kingdom here. I pray that we can remember the hope we have and share that with others. I pray for this client and the many other clients who we’ve had the privilege of serving. May God water the seeds that have been planted and may they see the light that shines through the Spirit in each of us. God is so good and works through His children in ways that we can never fully understand. I am honored to be working with people who allow God to use them in whatever way He imagines to share light in a dark world.
