Dearest supporters:

It has been almost four years since I joined the staff at Assurance, and I cannot think of another time I have felt compelled to write you this way.  I love the opportunities to share client stories, statistics about our services and results, and updates on ways you can get involved in what God is doing at Assurance.  We try to do so regularly, and I hope you are encouraged by the news you hear from us.

But today is different. I feel compelled to write a personal letter to you about something that is heavy on my heart.  You see, I know the prevalence of abortion among Christians in America.  I know that God calls you to support Assurance and our ministry for many wonderful reasons.  I also know that for some of you, your support is in part because you have an abortion in your past.

The weight of that secret, the impact of loss not fully grieved, the feeling of isolation, the burden of sin not confessed to others, the guilt, anger, unforgiveness, and so much more is so heavy.  My heart today is to write to you and invite you to lay that weight down at the foot of the cross.  I know that it is a process, and I promise we are here to walk with you each step of the way.

Will you take that first step in faith?

I wish you could hear the conversations in our ReKnew groups or one-on-one with one of our staff members. I wish you could understand the compassion and love with which you will be met.   I wish you could see the physical transformation. I don’t know how to describe it except to say you can literally see the weight lifted.  Freedom, forgiveness, and healing can really happen at a deep and life-changing level.  There is something about the power of joining with other women—from different walks of life but who all have abortions in their past—to dig into the Word of God and support each other while intentionally processing, grieving, and embracing the truths of His promises. Sister, will you contact us today and just give it a chance?

And to our brothers in Christ, I know that the world does not even have a category for you.  But we do.  They don’t see that you too have been impacted.  But we know that her abortion was also your child.  You may have wanted the abortion. You may have felt helpless to stop it even though you didn’t want it. You may have not even known about the pregnancy until it was too late.  Regardless of how it happened, abortion affects the mother and the father.  Our male staff are ready and waiting to walk with you through a journey of healing and forgiveness as well.

I can already hear the voice of the enemy.  He would like nothing more than for you to remain in bondage to this past sin.  Do not be embarrassed. Refuse to give in to the fear and doubt.  We know you are out there among our supporters.  We pray often for you.  What breaks our hearts is that we know people in our Assurance family have not yet experienced our ReKnew program.  You will be met with love not judgment.  There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1-2. Cling to the truth.  With our banquet this year inspired by Isaiah 61:1, I have spent lots of time meditating on that scripture.  Please trust the good news we bring that Jesus will comfort your broken heart and give you freedom.

Finally, I ask two things of you.  First, will you take a moment to read the testimonials of past participants in our ReKnew program so that you can hear directly from them about their experience when they came to Assurance for post-abortive ministry?  Secondly, will you call (859-278-8469) or use the form on the website to set up an appointment?  We will meet with you one-on-one first.  We are a safe place to share your secret.  You are the very people who have enabled us to be this safe place for others.  Brothers and sisters, I humbly ask only that you embrace the same for yourselves that you have so graciously offered others through your support of our ministry.

With His love,

P.S. Please know this is not a marketing strategy. Until my time in prayer this morning, I had absolutely no plans of my own to write this letter today or any other day. I don’t know who this letter is for, but you do. You know in your heart that God sent this message for you. Just think, the God of the universe asked me, who does not even know who you are or what your story is, to send this letter to thousands of people to reach you. That is how much He longs for you to experience the fullness of His grace. That, my friend, is a beautiful love story.
