We frequently get the question “How can I or my church do something a little different to support the needs of Assurance?” A couple weeks ago we had a church come to us and share with us that they were doing a trivia night and that the proceeds from that event would go to support Assurance’s ministry and the clients we serve! This was a fantastic and creative idea and I thought “What are some other ideas we could pass along for churches or organizations to help support this work?”
Below are a few we hope will cause those creative juices to flow. As always, if you’d like to discuss implementing one, please shoot us an email.
Also, remember, Assurance hosts a number of our own events throughout the year that we want you to keep your eyes peeled for! This year, in addition to our annual Banquet for Life on October 27th, we will co-host an art and life event on Feb. 27th, our annual LoveWalk on April 26th, and our Golf for Life event on May 19th alongside Broadway Christian Church. You won’t want to miss any of these!
Traditional Events
- Baby Bottle Campaign – Distribute empty baby bottles to congregants, encouraging them to fill them with spare change, cash, or checks over a few weeks before returning them. Many of our supporting churches already do this but if yours doesn’t encourage one to start! Or…do what some do and do this twice a year (Sanctity for Life Sunday in January, Mother’s Day, or a day during Respect Life Month in October are all prime days!)
- Sponsor-a-Service Program – Encourage Sunday school classes or small groups to “sponsor” a service that Assurance provides (e.g., pregnancy tests, advocacy sessions, REACH-parenting materials, Telecare Ad Coverage, Building Maintenance–yes, we know that’s a boring one, but it’s needed–etc.) with a set fundraising goal.
- Diaper & Supply Drive – Organize a collection of diapers, wipes, formula, and baby essentials, which can then go to support the material needs of our clients!
- Church-Wide Fundraising Dinner or Banquet – Host a meal with a guest speaker (perhaps an Assurance representative), with ticket sales and donations going to the center.
Non-Traditional Events
- Trivia Night – Host a trivia competition at a church, community center, or coffee shop (we know a few good ones that are life affirming!), charging an entry fee or setting a suggested donation. Offer fun prizes for the winners and include a short segment sharing the work of Assurance.
- “Adopt a Mom” Giving Tree – Set up a giving tree at church, with each tag representing a need (e.g., $50 for diapers, $75 dollars for food or gas, $100 for counseling, or $ _ for general support to the costs of the ministry). Folks can pick a tag and donate accordingly!
- Coffee and Conversation Night – Did we mention coffee already (It’s important to us)? Partner with a local coffee shop or host at church. Sell coffee, desserts, and pastries, and have a speaker (an Assurance rep or someone from your own congregation) share!
- “Ultimate Baby Olympics” – A fun, family-friendly event with challenges like diaper-changing races, baby food taste tests, and stroller obstacle courses. Charge an entry fee or set a suggested donation and encourage participants to raise sponsorships.
- Bake-Off for Life – Have church members or small groups enter their best baked goods or chili recipes. Charge an entry fee and let attendees sample and vote for their favorites. Offer prizes for the winners.
- Movie Night and Discussion – Host a family-friendly movie night (with a meaningful life-affirming message) at church or a local park. Sell concessions and use the event to share stories of impact from Assurance.
