On October 8th, 2014, I found out the scariest news of my life thus far. I was unexpectedly expecting. Which can literally make you feel every single emotion at the exact same time. Talk about a roller coaster! Not only was this a surprise, but the father and I had just broken up a month before then, after a rocky 3 and 1/2 yr. relationship. So, the circumstances were…complicated.
I called my best friend (freaking out, obviously), and she, at the time, was about 8 and 1/2 months pregnant. She went to Assurance when she found out she was pregnant, so that is where she suggested we go. That was the best thing she could have done for me.
I thought at the time that my mind was made up. I was going to Assurance ONLY to make sure I was, in fact, pregnant, and then I was going to terminate the pregnancy (which I NEVER thought I’d contemplate doing).
From the time I walked in until I walked out, I was treated with the utmost respect by the kindest people you could ask to help you in such a situation. Mo, especially, was my shoulder to lean on. Mind you, I was hysterical! Uncontrollably crying, thinking to myself what everyone probably thinks, “How could I have been so irresponsible!?” But Mo listened to me (what she could understand), helped me, guided me, and I know this sounds cliché, but she said anything and everything I needed to hear. I was too early for an ultrasound, so we had scheduled one for the 17th to make sure it was, in fact, a viable pregnancy. Even though I still didn’t know what exactly I was going to do, I somehow ended up SMILING on my way out.
So, after some serious thinking and praying, I had decided that even though this wasn’t in MY life plan this far, there’s a reason I had been given such a wonderful gift. I called Assurance back to let them know I needed to cancel my appointment for my ultrasound with them, that I found an OB and would be keeping my baby! I just needed to embrace the blessing in what would eventually be the greatest accomplishment I will ever achieve. My beautiful baby boy, Cameron Blake. Oh! His father and I had reconciled after we decided to continue with our pregnancy, and he was a huge support during my pregnancy and even still. He’s the best father to his 9 yr. old, and our boy!
But I have all the thanks in the world to give to Mo and the rest of the staff at Assurance. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
